Learning: For a better future

" Computing is not about  about computers anymore. It is about living"

Computing Rationale

The domain for computing is moving so fast that is is important to keep up to speed with the latest developments. Technology, which brings together tools to promote development, use and information exchange, has as its main objective of making tasks easier and the solving of many problems of mankind.  The development of new technologies helps to save lives; it improves work and makes the world better.

Computing is multi-faceted and in order to  prepare our pupils for this fast changing world we must prepare them with the skills and knowledge they need. Computing has its own history and timeline from Alan Turing and Joan Clarke and their codebreaking work at Bletchley park during World War 2 to, Tim Berners Lee- the inventor of the World Wide Web. It is by understanding what has come before that our pupils will understand where we are now and what is to come in the future.

INTENT

We have adopted the 'Teach Computing' curriculum which is a spiral curriculum, that is structured in units. The curriculum uses the National Centre for Computing Education's computing taxonomy to ensure a comprehensive coverage. The learning outcomes are organised as follows: algorithms, computer networks, computer systems, creating media, data and information, design and development, effective use of tools and impact of technology.  We want out pupils to be proficient and able  to manage technological advances and challenges of the future. The units incorporate online safety and digital citizenship and aim for children to feel confident and independent when using technology. In addition to this, pupils access Gooseberry Planet to  secure their knowledge of online safety.
